Worthy or not worthy?

Are you worthy? Worthy of romantic love, or familial love, or of being alive itself ?

When I think about Thor's hammer and Excalibur's sword, I think about worthiness. Do you have to be special to be worthy, to have some accurate and rare skill? Do one have to perform in a certain way? Is worthiness tied to how others view you? Or is worthiness in the mind singurlarly?

When Thor was facing (for the countless time) his brother Loki (from the avengers), the trickster god made his brother lose access to Mjoni. He planted the seeds of doubt and self loathing in the mind of the god of thunder.  He caused him to question if he was worthy or not. And this peticular scene probed me to ponder about how much human's social interactions crucially affect an individual's sense of worth.

When we are kids, it is our parents who condition us to be self confident, through praise and criticism. They shape you. But what if you are left to fend for yourself? Is worthiness conditional, based on your performance? Can it be used to manipulate you? To decimate you into a slave or to elevate you to success?

In today's era, men are supposed to be wealthy and women pretty. You are either married to a wealthy man or to a pretty woman to emphasise your status. Is worthiness only real when people are watching? When people are witnessing each other's grandeur? Or does it lie in the heart and in the simplicity of life itself.

All these were rhetorical questions. You are worthy. You are enough. Your efforts and dedication matter, efforts done either in public or in private.

Dissentiently yours,

JH
