The cost of loyalty
Being loyal to the wrong individuals can cost you your life, your future, your sanity and sometimes your freedom. While watching the TV series Empire starring Taraji Henson, this example is clearly illustrated. Cookie spends 17 years in prison for a drug deal and refuses to bring Lucious down with her. This union will give her three sons but will cause her to sacrifice her relationship with her father and her promising academic future. In life, we tend to find it easier to be faithful to others rather than being faithful to ourselves 1st. We lose ourselves trying to bend backwards to please others, to satisfy their every need. In the end resentment grows and becomes putrid in tbe soul. Giving does not feel natural. It feels like exploitation and continuous theft but with a somewhat willing victim.
