Trust and relationships

Often we hear people use the catch phrase "trust is a two way street". What does trust really mean and entail in today's societal setting?

The world we live in presently is a world of appearances and manipulation. That is a fact. The ruler of today's era is social media. The constant curration and need for approval and instant validation causes us to morph ourselves constantly. It reaches a point where many of us even forget who we really are. We often forget our true life purpose and the meaning of sincere belonging. Instead we shapeshift ourselves to fit in the mass.

Humans have a crucial need for safety and connection. Trust is at the heart of it. There are countless studies proving that prolonged periods of isolation are detrimental to the human mind. We need one another, like bees or dogs. We need that connection, that security and that warmth. For all this to work, we need to trust the person and vice versa.

From a personal perspective, the idea of change is scary. Mostly what terrifies me and amazes me simultaneously is how people can change, be it evilving or regressing. If it is for the better, I am okay with it. But the worst case scenarios scare me. I have lost countless friendships due to these changes. The impermanence of the human mind makes it difficult for me to trust others. Or simply may be my own impermanence makes it difficult for me to bond with others.

The truth is, I find it hard to trust other human beings...
