"Michael" 1996
Today I shall bless you all with a movie review since I like to yap on various topics. A movie is perfect.
I do strongly believe that John Travolta is an amazing actor with a lot of range. From "Grease" 1978 to Pulp Fiction" 1994. He sure has range. I also liked his performance in " Hairspray" 2007. "Michael" is a movie about the archangel himself whilst on earth. As a fan of the occult, I could not be more pleased.
Two writers from a newspaper travel to a deserted piece of America after receiving some fan mail regarding the prescence of an angel on earth. A dog trainer parading as an expert tags along those two. Throughout the production the idea of a "journey" is heavily highlighted. The viewer sees the growth of all the protagonists. Ironically the angel seems more human than the humans who always hold tight to a facade, a strong illusion instead of accepting their true selves.
The movie also defies the idea of perfection in angels or how things are supposed to be. Michael smokes and f*cks and is a woman magnet, challenging the idea of purity and perfection. Yet his heart is purer than most of the characters in the movie. He sees clearly through people and also shows deep and sincere compassion. The whole movie is about second chances.
I also liked how the concept of synchronicities was portrayed throughout the production. The idea that there is a higher power watching over us and guiding us when needed into alignment and out of harm's way is a very reassuring idea, not only to me but also to most humans. The idea that we are seen and loved despite our flaws and mistakes. The idea that do overs are possible.
Most characters are " mediocre" or unhappy or not that phenomenal or expectional make the movie even more relatable to the viewing audience. At the end of the journey, they find purpose and happiness in different scenerios and levels. The idea that fulfilment and joy can be attained without being exceptional or rich is a palatable one. Joy can be found in the simplest and tiniest things.
Dissentient yours
